Works and lives in Seattle (USA)
My work is about taking certain aspects of our world and recreating my own world on paper, where I am free to use imagination. I describe my culture within each drawing, where women can represent themselves in all their variety and possibilities. My characters each have they’re own defined psychology that is celebration of their particular nature, their many differences, and similataries. These descriptions of particular realities are informed by what I consider to be my culture of youth, low-fi, found objects, nature and fashion. My drawings spring out of the tradition of folk art in that key, like early folk at, are characterized by a sense of uninhibited inventiveness and unique perspective. It is a world of folklore based on the societies we live in and the daily activities of the people and animals around us.
I like to portray the individual and to represent the stories that each person carries with them. This is what inspires me and what gives meaning to my drawings. I feel they convey a mutual understanding of humanity. The characters I draw are reflections of the real inhabitants of the world and I see my drawings in the lives and the perceivable personalities of them.
