Tomoo Gokita

Tomoo Gokita finds his energy in the art of drawing. He was born in Tokyo in 1969, and it’s only natural that the manga, the popular Japanese art form par excellence, gave him his first great aesthetic shock. He expresses his style using simple and direct techniques exclusively in black and white. For him, it’s a way to maintain a direct link with the world, to undermine the boredom of daily life and the seeming absence of events. For example, Tomoo says that he can find his inspiration by attentively observing the form of his toothbrush, while remembering the unique glance of the stray cat encountered in a dirty black alley he crossed by accident, full of anxiety, in the middle of the afternoon.
